Carolina was born in Willershagen, Blankenhagen Parish, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, the daughter of Claus Frederick Wolf and Catherina Margaretha Winter. (Her birth record indicates the above DOB, not the one shown on the tombstone.) She married Johan Heinrich Clasen March 21, 1829 in Willershagen where 5 children were born, Sophie, (who died age 20) Friedrich, Carl, Johann and Maria (who died in 1849 at the age of 12). Caroline, Johan (Henry Charles in America)Friedrich, Carl and Johan immigrated to America in 1856 settling in Milford Township, Brown, County, MN. Her husband and son Frederick were killed by Indians in the Sioux Uprising August 18, 1862 while the family was visiting Fritz' family near Birch Coulie. They were supposedly buried by a burying party after the massacre. Carolina and son John escaped to Fort Ridgely. She lived out her life with the families of sons John and Carl on the farm in Milford Twp. or New Ulm.
