He was born on November 3, 1934, to the late Jay and Dorothy (Lovejoy) Ziegler. On August 10, 1957, he married Wilma "Willie" Thomas. Jim was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a partner/owner of Jim and Dale's IGA, Archbold, Ohio, for 28 years and sole owner of Jim's IGA, Archbold, Ohio, for seven years, retiring in 1993. He was an active member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Archbold, Ohio, the Defiance Northwesternaires Barbershop Chorus and Archbold Lion's Club. He helped establish Archbold Memorial Park and sponsored the Archbold IGA Softball Team, which was competitive in the Tri-State area. In addition, he passionately volunteered his time with the Archbold Festival of Lights and Fulton County Christmas Cheer. Jim was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, collecting antique toys and coins, horse racing, making stepping stones with stained glass and singing.
Jim will be greatly missed by his wife, Willie Ziegler, Archbold; three sons, Tracy (Diana) Ziegler, Tim (Chris) Ziegler and Todd (Sharon) Ziegler, all of Archbold, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Donovan (Jennifer) Ziegler, Jessica (Zach) Gericke, Tess (Dr. Michael) Pinter, Michael Ziegler, Lisa (Ryan) Eager, Travis and Addison Ziegler; four great-grandchildren, Miley and Wyatt Gericke, Maddox Pinter and Kadence Ziegler; one sister, Corrine Gaylord, Maumee, Ohio; and one brother, Roger (Buzz) Ziegler, Archbold, Ohio.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. at St. Martin's Lutheran Church, Archbold. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Martin's Lutheran Church, with Rev. Paul Reichert officiating. Private burial will precede in the Archbold Cemetery.
