Lars was born in Sweden. He was the son of Per Persson Gok and Anna Ersdotter. He married Anna Elizabeth Larson 21 Oct 1855 in Orsa, Kopparberg, Sweden. They lived on a farm near Hafven, Sweden where their eight children were born. He was self educated with help from the regional pastor. He served as assistant pastor for several years. In 1884 they sold their farm and moved to Avanaker, Sweden. In 1890 they emigrated to the United States to join sons Joann, Fredrick and Adolph. Lars lived with his son Ludvig on a farm near Webster, SD. He always used the name Lars Persson where as the rest of family changed the surname to Larson. He died of natural causes. The family name was changed to Larson as it was customary to take the father's first name and add "son" to it.
