He was born July 26, 1914, south of Fairview, to Mark and Dollie Scott Rooney. He attended Franklin School and Fairview High School. He was a farmer and lived in the Fairview, Sabetha and Muscotah communities. He worked for the Westinghouse Corp. in Kansas City for several years before he moved to California, where he worked for McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft before he retired.
He was a member of the Catholic Church.
He married Della Leuthold in December 1933. They were divorced. He married Daisy Vickery in February 1997. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Gary Rooney, Hanford, Calif.; a daughter, Dollie Rohlfs, Muscotah; a brother, George E. Rooney, Richmond, Va.; three sisters, A. Isabel Showman, Sabetha, Dorothy Rooney, Lawrence, and Mary Lane, Bloomington, Ind.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
Burial will be in St. Augustine's Catholic Cemetery in the Fidelity community. Mr. Rooney will lie in state from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha and after 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
