William Frederick August Stender was the son of Joachim and Sophia (Ott) Stender. He was born in Albaek, Hjorring, Denmark on September 3, 1845. He was baptized on October 26, 1845, also in Albaek. He and his family immigrated to the United States. Among the family members that immigrated were William's mother, Sophia; his step-father, Soren Anderson; three Stender brothers; and Anderson half-siblings. They settled in Adams and Cass counties in Iowa.
He was married to Trena Peterson, a native of Denmark. They had one son, Peter. William died in April of 1875. He is buried somewhere in Adams County, Iowa. His descendant's best guess is that he is buried in the Oakland Quincy Cemetery.
