Gertrude Conrad, 86, of Waco, passed away Friday, May 28, 2010, in a local care center. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 1, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1301 Hogan Lane (Behrens Circle & IH-35 in Bellmead) with Pastor Walter Albers officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m., Monday, May 31, at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors.
Gertrude was born in Hill County, Texas, to the late Adolph and Olga (Maass) Markwardt. She married Hilbert F. Conrad on Dec. 22, 1945, at Salem Lutheran Church in Malone, Texas. Gertrude was a loving, cheerful and humble Christian woman. She was a meticulous homemaker, an avid gardener, enjoyed arts and crafts, and being a grandmother. She enjoyed being involved in family, church, community and social activities.
Gertrude was preceded in death in 2002 by her loving husband of 56 years; her sisters, Elsie and Bertha; and brothers, Erich, Otto, Victor, Ben and Jimmy.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter, Emma Jean Campbell and husband, Roger; sons, James Conrad and wife, Deborah and Dean Conrad and wife, Sharon; grandchildren, Jonathan Conrad, Jeffrey Conrad and wife, Lauren, Kristie Killings and husband, Leandre, Joshua Duckett, Audrey Duckett; great-grandchild, Jada Killings; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
