Paul Bulla married 1st to Amy Nielsen Sparks who had two young daughters, Mardell and Sandra Sparks. Amy's Danish name was Petra after her father, and she also went by the name of Erma. When Amy married Paul, Amy's daughters changed their name from Sparks to Bulla. Both step-daughters are now deceased. Sandra Bulla was a U.S. Naval Veteran. For a period, Amy and Paul lived on a house boat in Portland, Oregon. They later owned The Ranch Tavern on McLoughlin Blvd. just out of Portland, in Milwaukie, Oregon. After Amy's death Paul married Alice Martin 28 Apr 1968 in Lincoln Co., Oregon.

Paul served in the US Navy from August 18, 1936 to July 14, 1939. After his discharge he worked on ships, primarily in the Pacific.
