Mrs. Fred Roby, one of the early settlers of Grand Island, even of the days before the city was located on its newer site along the Union Pacific, passed away at the home of her son, Arthur at Denver, Sunday at the age of 82 years. She had been ill for the past two years, her death being caused generally by old age. Mrs. Roby and husband, Fred Roby, came to Hall county from Davenport, Ia., in 1863. The deceased was born in Germany and came to America as a child. It was at Davenport that she was married. The union was blessed by eight children, four of whom survive the octogenerian mother, these being Fred of this city, Mrs. Henry Stoltenberg, of Merrick county, Arthur, of Denver, and John, of Sterling, Colo. Mr. Roby passed away on June 3, 1903. It is probably that the funeral will be held on Wednesday, but definite arrangements will not be concluded until the arrival of Arthur Roby, who accompanies the body here.
