Emma Thompson, daughter of William and Sina Miller Gard, was born in Darwin Township, Clark county, Illinois, July 24, 1899. She resided with her parents, attending the sitrict school and Methodist Protestant Church in Snyder, until her marriage to Ray Thompson, March 4, 1925, after which she resided in Anderson township, to the date of her death, February 7, 1937.

The deceased was a dutiful daughter, a devoted wife, and mother, a kind and sympathetic neighbor.

This good woman, young in years, leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, two little boys, Billie L., aged 8 years and Eddie A., aged 5. She is also survived by her father, William Gard, a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Scott, and a brother, James M. Gard, both of Champaign, Walter Gard of Terre Haute, Ind., Dan, Frank, and Marion Gard of Darwin Township.

Funeral services were conducted at the family residence south of Marshall February 10, 1937. The Rev. Schuermeier officiating. Burial was in the Marshall cemetery.
