GOSHEN, IN. -- William L Thompson, 90, of Goshen passed away Sunday evening, June 9, 2019 at Goshen Hospital. Bill was born Sept. 13, 1928 near Marshall, Illinois, to Ray and Emma (Gard) Thompson. Following the death of Bill’s mother in 1937, Ray married Edna (Romoser) Thompson (FAG 138726578), together raising their family in Marshall.

Bill married Helen Joan Clark, March 11, 1950 in Marshall, Joan preceded him in death, Jan. 5, 2019. Together they were loving parents to their children, David A. (Karen) Thompson of Morton, Illinois, Phyllis A. (James) Smith of Goshen, and Jodi R. (Ron) Minor of East Peoria, Illinois.

His career included Caterpillar (East Peoria, IL), Conibear Autobody (Morton, IL), Bob Grimm Chevrolet Autobody Manager (Morton). He enjoyed storytelling, family celebrations, reading, gardening, woodworking, and the joy of Christian fellowship.

Bill will be fondly remembered by his family of eight grandchildren, Joshua Smith of Atlanta, Georgia, Jason (Andreya) Thompson of Peoria, Illinois, Benjamin Smith of Goshen, Paul (Cheryl) Thompson of Westmont, Illinois, Daniel (Kristy) Thompson of Morton, Illinois, Caleb Smith of Goshen, Gary Shelton of Spring Bay, Illinois, Sara Shelton of East Peoria, Illinois, and his five great-grandchildren, Eli Thompson, Kaitlyn Thompson, Aubrey Thompson, Olivia Thompson, and Finley Thompson.

His siblings include Ed (Mary Lee) of Savoy, Illinois, Glen Dale (Patricia) of Ridge Farm, Illinois, Ray (Esther) of Greenup, Illinois, Robert (Carol) of Casey, Illinois, Marcella (Ron) Scott of Marshall, Illinois, Janet Hetherington of Danville, Illinois, Charlotte (Tom) Brown of Marshall, Illinois, Warren (Terry) of Montezuma, Melvin (Jane) of Marshall, Illinois, Wanda (Rick) Pine of Marshall, Illinois. He was preceded in death by siblings Herman and Harold Dean.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Pearce Funeral Home, 314 S. 6th St., Marshall, Illinois followed by a memorial celebration of life at 10:30 a.m. A joint committal service for Bill and Joan will follow at Marshall City Cemetery.
