Reverend James McCrea

Rev. McCrea the first pastor of the Lamington Presbyterian Church from 1740 - 1766.

He attended the Log College in Neshaminy, PA to study theology under Rev. William Tennent, Sr., founder of the college, and graduated Aug 5, 1739. Was licensed by the Presbytery of New Brunswick Nov. 7, 1739, ordained Aug 4, 1741, became Pastor of Lamington Church 1740. He preached by riding from village to village in the area around Lamington, a circuit of 200 miles. In 1766 he asked to be release as his work had worn him down. He had a home and farm at Lamington, Bedminster Twp, Somerset Co., N. J. and there he retired.

Reverend James McCrea
