Clarence was baptized and confirmed at St.John Lutheran Church in Shaws Bend and attended school in Shaws Bend through nineth grade.He was a member of St.John Lutheran Church in Ellinger.
Clarence was inducted into the U.S. Army (93rd Airdrome squadron) September 21,1944.He served his country during World War II in the Pacific Campaign and received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon,Good Conduct Medal,Army Occupation Ribbon (Japan),Victory Ribbon,two Overseas Service Bars and qualified as a sharpshooter (rifle).He was honorably discharged October 29,1946 with the rank as a Corporal.He was discharged from the U.S. Air Force Reserve on October 4,1948.
During his lifetime,he was employed as a plumber,a mechanic,hauled gasoline for Sinclair,owner of a farm store,cowboy for Double D Feeders and a farmer and rancher for the Wegenhoft Ranch in Garwood.
Mr.Horndt passed away at his home.
Funeral services were held for Clarence William Horndt Sr.,81,Sunday May 14,2006 at 4:00 p.m. Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus with Pastor Linda Mosley officiating.
Pallbearers were the grandchildren.
Honorary Pallbearers were the step-grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to Columbus Community Hospital,P.O. Box 865,Columbus Texas 78934;Rice Medical Foundation,Box 277,Eagle Lake,Texas 77434;or the Charity of your choice.
