Leander Hoffmann, 22, was found shot to death in a field on a farm near St. Ann Monday afternoon, and Coroner Wesley Van Zanten pronounced the death a suicide.
Mr. Hoffmann, who had served three years in World War II, had suffered a nervous breakdown and was not well recently, relatives reported.
He was in the army in harbor service and served in the European theatre of operations in France, Germany, and other countries.
Mr. Hoffmann was employed at New Holstein and was living with relatives on the Joseph P. Turba farm near S. Ann.
