Johann Peter Gold, paternal grandfather of Frederick and Clara Gold, came to America in 1852 from Ober Kostenz über Simmern. Hunsrück, Prussia near Koblenz, in today’s modern Germany. He brought with him, his wife Regina née Zimmer, and two sons, Peter age twelve, and Jakob (Jacob), age ten.

They landed at Indianola, Texas where Peter Sr. died of cholera soon after landing. His pregnant widow went to New Braunfels, Texas with her two sons where she soon married Heinrich Eckhardt. Regina then gave birth to a third Gold son named Adam, but baptized Adam Eckhardt, and who went by that name. Regina’s new husband was also a German immigrant, said to be from Steinbruecken, who came to Texas in 1845. In 1853 the family moved to Gillespie County, Texas and settled in the region later named Rheingold.

It is said that Johann Peter Gold’s sons Peter and Jakob were both called Jr. so as not to confuse them with the two sons of his brother Wilhelm. Further, the 1850 US Census of Justice Precinct 4, Gillespie County, Texas shows his son Peter J. Gold, age 61 with Lina Gold, age 18. Therefore, I believe Peter Jr.’s middle name was Johann.

Regarding Wilhelm’s sons Peter and Jakob, they were most often referred to as Peter Sr. and Jakob Sr., including inscriptions on their gravestones.

Peter Gold Jr. married Auguste Danz, daughter of Casper Danz and Johannette Margaretha Knaup on Nov. 19, 1866, and had five children.

 Wilhelm Gustav Gold married Emilie H. Grobe
 Clara Gold married Henry Olfers
 Frederick Edgar Gold married Ida Johanna Olfers
 Mina Gold married Emil Herbort
 Lina Gold married Louis Haun
o Louis Haun married Rosie Rech after Lina passed away.
o Louis Haun's grandmother was the sister of Louise ReinhardtOlfers, second wife of John B. Olfers
