Mary H. Boe, 77, tragically died Wednesday, October 19, 1949, when she fell from her hospital window at Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton.

Mrs. Boe fell around 9:30 p.m., Wednesday, from a second floor window of Sacred Heart Hospital and died 45 minutes later from her injuries. She may have also been suffering from a confused mind. She had been taking treatment for hardening of the arteries and other ailments. Mrs. Boe had been in the hospital for two weeks and had also been hospitalized during the past year. Yankton county Coroner Floyd Schenk felt that this was not a suicide attempt and that she had occasionally wandered from her hospital room before in an unconscious state.

Funeral services were 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 22, from the Schenk Funeral Chapel in Yankton, with the Rev. E. A. Bersagel officiating. Irvin Parce of Yankton college sang hymns. Pallbearers were her six nephews, Gilmore Kjeldseth, Ernest Frick, Raymond Schmelzel, Percy Klimisch, Peter Kaufman and Emil Geraldson. Burial was in the Walshtown Cemetery, rural Yankton, South Dakota.

Mary H. Todt was born December 30, 1871, in Miles, Iowa, the daughter of Hans and Catherine (Smith) Todt. When she was six years old, the family moved to Walshtown, South Dakota. She attended the local schools. She married Peter Heinrich Boe on November 29, 1894, in Yankton County. They were the parents of Flora and Harry. Together they farmed near Walshtown, until they retired and moved to Yankton. Peter preceded her in death on July 2, 1935. She continued to live in Yankton, until September 20, 1948, when she moved to Walshtown to live with her daughter, Flora Utke, and her family, because of poor health. She was a devoted wife and mother, centering her interest in the family welfare.

Surviving are one son, Harry Boe; one daughter, Flora Utke, both of Irene; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Catherine Erickson, Mrs. Harriot Klimisch and Mrs. Emma Tuen, all of Yankton; and three brothers, Louis Todt of Blue Springs, MO, William Todt of Waitsburg, WA, and John Todt of Irene.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters and two brothers.
