Mrs. Pettey , a registered nurse, was born in Norfolk on Jan. 14, 1943. She
attended American University in Washington, D.C., and received her R.N. degree
from George Mason University. She was certified in enterostomal therapy by Emory
University Hospital and earned a master's degree in Business and Public
Administration from Southeastern University in Washington, D.C.
She was a nurse at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C., for nine
years and served as manager of the gynecologic oncology unit and the obstetrics
and gynecology physicians' practice group. She moved to Texas in 1985 and worked
for the Texas Department of Health, designing and implementing new programs in
maternal-child health and hepatitis prevention. Most recently she managed her
husband's medical practice.
She was a member of the American Nurses Association, the Texas Nurses
Association, the Texas Perinatal Association, the American Association of
University Women, and the International Association of Enterostomal Therapists.
She was active in the North Texas Humane Society.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. David Pettey of Fort Worth; her mother,
Freda E. Schloss of Norfolk; a sister, Hannah S. Winston of Philadelphia, Pa.;
and a nephew, Brad Goldfarb of New York City, N.Y.
A memorial service will be conducted at the chapel of Ohef Sholom Temple by
Rabbi Lawrence A. Forman, on Monday, Nov. 27, 1995, at noon. Memorial donations
may be made to Ohef Sholom Temple, Norfolk, or to a charity of choice. H.D.
