Suggested edit: Heinrich Hinkel Obituary: Der Kirchenbote, Vol. 59 #49, 5 December 1940. Heinrich Hinkel was born August 13, 1868 in Norka, Russia, where he was baptized and confirmed. He was a son of John Hinkel and Lena, nee Urbach.
On February 14, 1895, he married Magdalena Bott in Holy Matrimony. To this union three sons and five daughters were born, of whom two daughters preceded the father in death. In 1912, the family came to America and lived in Hastings, Nebraska for three years. They moved to the land at Bayard, Nebraska whereby industriousness and God's blessings they prospered. Father Hinkel had good order in his family and as a member of our church he served some years as deacon. In supporting the church, missions and charity, he always set an example for others. In his friendly ways, he gladly assisted smaller churches and so it happened that together with his wife drove on Sunday, October 27th with other church members in an automobile for an afternoon church services in Alliance, Nebraska. It pleased him to assist our small church there oftentimes. On his way home, not very far from his farm, on the highway a truck hit his car. Georg Fuch with his wife in the front seat escaped with small injuries and survived. The truck driver was an under-age youth who, with a friend, was returning home from a hunting expedition. Where iron and steel breaks, people's bones also break. Father and Mother Hinkel were taken to the M. E. Hospital in Scottsbluff, where Father Hinkel died October 31, 1940. He reached the age of 72 years, 2 months and 18 days. On Sunday, November 3, with a large audience from our church, he was laid to rest at Bayard. He is mourned by his wife; sons Konrad, Philipp and Ludwig; three daughters, Katharina Jordan, Elisabeth Brill and Paulina Busch; Aunt Magdalena Schleuning; 25 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. God's comfort be with the mourners, especially his wife, who could not attend but was with us in thought. Jacob Wagner, Pastor.
