GOTTSCHALK FUNERAL HELD
Many Attend Final Rites for the Late Andrew Gottschalk

The funeral of the late Andrew Gottschalk, aged 86, who died here early Sunday morning following a stroke of paralysis, was held at the Evangelical church at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Gottschalk founded the church in 1880, and had been a trustee ever since.

The church was crowded to capacity for the funeral and hundreds of people filed past the casket as the body lay in state before the funeral. Rev. M. O. Herman officiated at the rites, assisted by Rev. C. P. Maas, pastor of the First Evangelical church at Fort Wayne and former pastor of the local church. Mrs. A. C. Smith presided at the organ and the Misses Marjory Blum and Mary Ellen Ries[letters cut off] san "Abide With Me" and another appropriate number.Many floral tributes were received, including one from the State Budget Committee, of which Sen. T. A. Gottschalk is chairman.

Mr. Gottschalk was the second oldest druggist in the state, and was formerly county treasurer. He was Berne's oldest merchant, and a former Postmaster, Justice of the Peace and township trustee here.
