A surprise party on her eightieth birthday at her home at Wiggins & Garrison was celebrated by mostly family. Included were; Mr and Mrs W W Calhoon, Mrs F S Barde and daughter Georgie, Mr and Mrs Whitsell and daughter, Mr and Mrs C F McElroy and daughters, Julie and Eisle, Mr and Mrs Will McElroy, miss Mollie Moore, Louis Becker and Herbert Barde.
The aged lady had looked all day long for some demonstration, but had almost given up hope, when along in the evening her guests came trooping in with a collection of suitable birthday gifts.

Aged Lady Passed Away Last Night After an Illness of Short Duration
Mrs. Sarah Barde, widow of *[footnote] Jared Barde died last night about 9 o'clock after an illness of only four days with pneumonia. She was 83 years of age and resided with her daughter, Miss Georgia Barde at 1510 South Garrison Avenue. The funeral was held at 2:30 at the Congregational church. Rev. J. B. Toomay conducted the service.
Mrs. Barde was taken sick only last Monday. She had just returned from a visit with her son in Sedalia and had contracted a bad cold on the way home. She was compelled to take to her bed and pneumonia soon developed. She grew continually worse until the end came last night.
The deceased has lived in Carthage for about 11 years and was beloved by all who knew her. She was a devoted member of the Congregational church and enjoyed a wide circle of intimate acquaintances. She leaves six children to grieve her loss. They are:
Miss Georgia Barde and
Mrs. C. F. McElroy of this city
Mrs. Becker of Galveston, Texas
Milton Barde of Sedalia
Fred Barde of Mena, Arkansas and
James Barde
*[footnote] On her son's death certificate the name is listed as Gerald.
