Son of Edward Crane and Henrietta Cottrell Crane. Raised by Aunt Josephine Cottrell Sargent and her husband Courtland Sargent along with brothers Vernon Crane and Clyde Winthorp Crane after the untimely demise of their mother. First married Eliza C. Millman Evans, then in 1921 married Harriett L. "Hattie" Upton. They had three children - Warren Ralph Crane (1922-1988), Edward Lee Crane (1923-2002) and Dorothy Crane Harnist [1925-2007}
