Helen Marie Fehringer, 79, of Sterling, died Sunday, July 3, 2005 in Sterling.

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 6, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Tennant Funeral Home. Rosary and vigil will be held 7 p.m. that same day at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 7, also at St. Anthony, with Rev. Jim Baird officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.

Mrs. Fehringer was born Jan. 20, 1926, in Topeka, Kan., to August and Barbara (Ingenthrone) Schell.

Her father died at a young age, and her mother remarried, to Fred Leachman. The family then moved to Crook.

She married Henry A. Fehringer Aug. 26, 1947, in Sterling.

She worked at the phone company before her marriage, and then was a mother and homemaker. Mrs. Fehringer was a dedicated mother. She enjoyed attending grandchildren's activities and playing cards. She was also an avid angel collector. As a two-time cancer survivor, she volunteered to talk to cancer patients. She was active in the community, visiting the nursing homes and was involved in many other community activities.

She belonged to and held offices in the Peetz Legion Auxiliary, St. Jude's Circle at Iliff, Hearth & Home, Catholic Daughters, and served as president and secretary of McClaren House. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, and formerly of Sacred Heart of Peetz and St. Catherine's in Iliff.

She is survived by daughters Jeanette Berhost and husband Bob, Nancy Fehringer, Carol Neff and husband Mike; sons Gary Fehringer and wife MaryJo, Raymond Fehringer, Michael Fehringer and wife Lavonne, and Bill Fehringer; and several nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband Henry; sisters Irene Eshbach, Marcelle Penardo, Catherine Kaberline, and Genivive Schell; and brothers George, John, and Paul Schell.
