Gordon "Johnnie" Gutzmer, 72, of Fergus Falls, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009, at the VA Hospital in Fargo.

He was born March 31, 1936, on the family farmstead five miles north of Dwight, N.D., the son of Otto and Martha (Doleshy) Gutzmer. He grew up in Everdell, attending School District 52 in Wilkin County.

In January of 1959, he entered the U.S. Army as a medic, and was discharged in January of 1961.

He returned to farm with the Bilden family west of Fergus Falls, and continued to be employed with them until the time of his death.

He enjoyed his time of fellowship and meals daily at Debbie's Kitchen in Fergus Falls.

Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers, Eugene Gutzmer, Pete Gutzmer, and Dennis "Butch" Gutzmer; two infant children, Lynn Marie and Jamie Allen; and a grandson, Timothy Allen Knutson.

Survivors include his children, Lisa Gutzmer and Jon Gutzmer of Fergus Falls, Jobie Gutzmer of Erhard, Jeremi Anderson of Wendell, Jesse Anderson of Elbow Lake, Shana Gutzmer and Jarid Gutzmer of Fergus Falls, and Adam Gutzmer of Underwood; numerous grandchildren; a brother, Richard "Dick" Gutzmer of Breckenridge; and three sisters, Ruth Ostern of Wahpeton, N.D., Leona Walker of Bismarck, N.D., and Carol Deaton of Portland, Ore.

Visitation: Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church

Service: 11 a.m. Friday, at First United Church of Christ, Fergus Falls

Clergy: Rev. Tom Gard

Burial: First United Church of Christ Cemetery, Fergus Falls, with military honors provided by Fergus Falls VFW and American Legion
