Henry Hofelman, a resident of Rock county for more than thirty years, succumbed Friday to a severe attack of pneumonia and general constitution debilitation brought on by an illness of two years duration. He was a resident of Springwater township since 1916, and was generally known as a pioneer resident of this vicinity.

Deceased was born March 15, 1848, in Oldenburg, Germany. Like many another venturesome and forward looking youth, he came to America in 1867 to work out his destiny in this country. He first lived in Horicon, Wisconsin, and after short terms of residence in that place, Columbus, Nebraska, and Minnesota Lake, Minnesota, he came to Luverne. Here he engaged in the blacksmith trade until 1900. In 1916 he moved to a farm in Springwater twonship, where he lived until his death.

Mr. Hofelmann was married to Mary Pitz in this city February 14, 1882. She, with two brothers and three sisters preceded him in death. The children born to this union survive. They are Mrs. Thomas Woodfurd, of St. Paul, and L. J. Hofemann, of Springwater township. A sister of the deceased, Mrs. Minnie Enright, of Perry, Okalahoma, and a brother, William, of Platte Center, Nebraska, also survive.

Funeral services wee conducted from the Methodist church Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, with Rev. E. C. Teachout in charge. Burial was made in Maplewood Cemetery. Members of the Odd Fellow Lodge, to which the deceased belonged, acted as pall bearers. There were (omitted here due to length). Deceased was likewise a member of the Woodmen lodge. Those sho came from distant pointss to be present at the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Wm Hofelmann, Adolph Hofelmann, and Mr. and Mrs. Carsten Petersen, of Platte Center, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hofelmann and H. A. Hofelmann, of Ihlen, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Aug. Schmidt, of Tripp, South Dakota, and Mrs. Thomas Woodfurd, of St. Paul.

A granddaughter states that Henry died of pneumonia. Also that he was a great gardener and raised everything you can imagine and kept a flock of chickens.
