Benjamin was the son of David and Ida Moun, and was residing at 2463 Second Avenue in Manhattan before his entry into the U.S. Army. He was unmarried at the time he registered for the draft in June 1917.
His mother participated in the Gold Star Mothers pilgrimage program, a U.S. government program that paid the travel expenses to the grave sites for mothers whose sons had died overseas during the war. Ida was able to visit Benjamin's grave in the summer of 1933, about 18 months before her own death.
