Well Known Farmer Of Jefferson Township Dies Of Heart Disease
John Christian Werling, 72, died at 4 o'clock Sunday morning at his home six miles southeast of Ossian. Death was attributed to heart disease. He had been ill four months.
Born in Adams county March 20, 1861, Mr. Werling was a son of Andrew and Minnie Gallmeier Werling, natives of Germany. His marriage to Miss Mary Schueler took place Nov. 26, 1886 (Preble Lutheran Church).
Surviving are the widow, a son, Otto Werling, Fort Wayne, and two daughters, Mrs. John Witte, Hogaland, and Mrs. Charles Dettmer, near Ossian; two brothers, David and Andrew Werling, near Ossian, and a sister, Mrs. Ernst Bauermeister, near Ossian.
He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran church.
Funeral services will be held at the home at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and at the church at 2:00 p.m. (CST). Rev Carl Strasburg will have charge. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
