Catherine was the wife of Nicholas Grimmer and mother of Marie Anastasia, Victor, Nicholas, Maria Victoria and Andre. During the Civil War Union soldiers conficated from her one mule, two horses, several head of cattle, eight bales of cotton and nine hogsheads of sugar. She nursed and buried her husband's brother, Jean; nursed and buried her daughter, Marie Anatasia, and reared her two sons, Angelo Henri Grimmer and William Berchman Bell; nursed and buried her son, Nicholas, and his wife, Elizabeth Lise Chaler; and nursed and buried her infant daughter, Maria Victoria. She did all of this and died alone on January 3, 1896 at the age of 89. In her final days she was nursed by an old negro named Emmelee Scott. On June 2, 1900, her property of 10 lots, a house, a hotel, a genaral store and a barn were sold for $8.57 for taxes.
