DOERR, RUTH DORIS
Funeral services for Ruth Doris Doerr, a teacher in the Walled Lake Consolidated School District for 25 years are at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Milford.
Mrs. Doerr taught math and computer courses at Walled Lake Central and Clifford Smart Junior High. She died Sunday at the age of 70.
A graduate of the University of Toledo and Michigan State University, Mrs. Doerr's teaching career began in the Walled Lake school district during the 1960s and spanned through the mid-1980s when she retired.
Husband, Hobart Doerr, a retired teacher from Pontiac schools, said he and his wife met at at meeting of the Future Teachers of America while they were in college.
"She didn't tolerate any silliness," Hobart said of his wife's teaching style. "She was reasonable, not too strict," he said.
Mrs. Doerr was active with American Youth Hostels, traveling across the nation and extensively in Europe. Recently she was preparing for a 200-mile bicycle tour along the Ohio River Valley, an even she participate4d in every year for the last 20 years, her husband said. Mrs. Doerr was also secretary of the Milford Historical Society.
She is also survived by her children, David Doerr of Milford, Marian Heaney of Maine and Keith Doerr of Ann Arbor, four grandchildren; siblings Donald, Jeanne and Elvin Buchele and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral will be at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 1851 E. Commerce Road in Milford with the Rev. Ron Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Milford Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation is 2-9 p.m. today at Lynch and Sons Funeral Home in Milford.
