Marie Baum, 96, formerly of Worden, passed away Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010, at 4:24 a.m., at Billings Health and Rehab. Marie Balzer was born May 21, 1914, in the Osborn/Huntley Project area in Montana, to Fred and Mary (Leichtenwalt) Balzer. Marie attended the Osborn School. She married William Baum on Feb. 14, 1932, and they spent their lives farming in this area. They retired from the farm in 1978 and purchased a home in Worden. They lived there until 1983, when her husband, William "Bill," died. Marie continued to live in Worden until 1998, when she entered a Billings nursing home. They had two children: Virginia Reichman of Bismarck, N.D., and Gerald of Billings. Marie loving being outdoors and especially enjoyed her chickens. She liked gardening and took great pride in canning produce, teaching her daughter and daughter-in-law the art of perfection in preserving the food so it looked as beautiful as it was tasty. Marie was raised in a Christian home, and she and Bill gave their children a firm influence regarding the importance of Christianity in their lives. This was a great help to their children's beliefs and treatment of other people. Marie was a lifetime member of the Ameca-Rebekah Lodge #126. She was an active member and contributed much influence in the lodge. A 65-year member.
