Peter Lie was born 11-20-1853. As the oldest son, many responsibilities came to him on the farm. He entered the Norwegian Army and became a non-commissioned officer. He had a senior officer with the same name, thus Peter found it necessary to change his name to Lier to avoid confusion.
Upon completion of duty, Peter immigrated to the United States and married Alma Holmgren at Brandon, Minnesota in 1883. Alma was born in Stockholm, Sweden on 12-2-1866.
Peter opened a General Store in Ashby, Minnesota and it prospered for many years. In later life they moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota and he entered into the paper sales business.
Peter passed away in 1936 and Alma followed in 1945.
