ELSIE SHEEDY

Elsie Vivian Sheedy, 84, died Nov. 19 at Blue Mountain Hospital in John Day.
She was born Aug. 3, 1919, in Seattle, Wash., to John and Esther Erickson.
In 1937, she graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma. During high school she was active in basketball, swimming, girls rifle team and was a yell leader. She always loved music and for many years was employed at the B.A. Almvig Music Company in Tacoma.
On Jan. 9, 1943, she married Forrest Sheedy in Tacoma. After Mr. Sheedy's service in World War II, the couple settled in Tacoma, then in 1954 moved to Carmichael, Calif.
Mrs. Sheedy served as a teaching assistant for many years, and her husband was a teacher.
In 1959-60, they opened their home to a German foreign exchange student, Heidi Knauthe, and became lasting friends.
The Sheedys retired to Northport, Wash., in 1976, and moved to Colville in 2000.
Mrs. Sheedy was an active member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority for 60 years. She loved animals and always cared for dogs, cats and wild birds.
Her husband died Feb. 26, 2003, then she relocated to John Day from Colville, Wash. She had resided at Valley View Retirement and Assistant Living Residence since March.
Mrs. Sheedy is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Carl Albin and Libby Erickson of Wichita, Kan.; sister-in-law Betty Sheedy of John Day, numerous nieces and nephews, and close friends Heidi and Dr. Karlheinz Knauthe of Berlin, Germany. Her cat, Otto, will remain a resident at Valley View.
Mrs. Sheedy's ashes will be taken to the Phillips Ranch in Northport, Wash. No services will be held. Memorial contributions can be made to the Northport Dollars for Scholars, P.O. Box 1280, Northport, WA 99157.
