Mary Tsakon died on Friday evening, Oct. 1, 2010 at the Hospice Center at JFK Medical Center in Edison. She was 64 years old.
Mrs. Tsakon was born in New Brunswick but resided in Highland Park since her high school years.
She was employed briefly as an Operator for NJ Bell then worked as a Bank Teller at Brunswick Bank and Trust.
She also was employed by the borough of Highland Park as a Crossing Guard.
She was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church for many years and dedicated her time to the church PTO group. She was currently a member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Perth Amboy.
She was predeceased by her mother, Anastasia Bassel in 2010. She was also predeceased by her step father, Andrew Bassel in 1996.
Mrs. Tsakon is survived by her husband of 38 years, Mr. Komninos Tsakon of Highland Park and their children, Nicholas Tsakon and his wife Elaine of Highland Park and Julie Tsakon of Old Bridge. She is also survived by her father, James Demules of East Brunswick; a brother, Thomas Bassel of Burlington; a sister, Sophia Fasarakis and her husband Bill of Edison; her niece, Nikki Fasarakis of Edison and her nephews, William Fasarakis of Edison, and Andrew and Matthew Bassel of North Brunswick.
Services will begin on Tuesday morning at 10 AM at the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton Street in Somerset followed by a 11 AM funeral service at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Perth Amboy. Interment will follow at Van Liew Cemetery. Friends and Family may call from 2-4 and 7-9 on Monday at the Gleason Funeral Home.
