Augusta is the daughter of Johann and Caroline Semmler of Prussia, who were enumerated in New Braunfels, Comal Co., Texas, in the 1860 census. She was the first of the family born in Texas, which gives a migration window for the rest of the family of about 1855—when brother Julius Semmler was born in Prussia—to 1860. It is likely that Fritz A. Semmler, buried with his wife in the same plot as Augusta and her husband, is her brother. (He was enumerated with the Abner family in Seguin, Guadalupe Co., Texas, in 1860.)
