SUDDEN DEATH COMES TO AGED RESIDENT. Claus Borm Passes Away at His Home Monday at Age of 73. Funeral Today.

With but two days of severe illness to warn him of the approaching end, Claus Borm, another pioneer of this community and a resident here for 42 years, passed away at his home in Remsen Monday afternoon. He was almost 73 years old. Death was due to heart trouble. Mr. Borm is survived by six children. The funeral took place this afternoon, with services conducted by the Rev. A. Noack, pastor of Christ Lutheran church.

Mr. Borm suffered with occasional light attacks of heart trouble for many years but his condition was never regarded as serious, although last September he began to complain more frequently, and with the prompt and proper exercise of care and seeking of medical advice his ailment gave him but little trouble. He was constantly able to be up and about, and even up to last Friday he was accustomed to taking his daily walks to town and attend to shopping for the household which he and his daughter conducted. Saturday his condition suddenly became alarming and he was force to remain in his room. In spite of prompt medical assistance his condition took on a serious turn at once, and the end came, although unexpectedly, at 3:30 o'clock Monday afternoon.

Claus Borm was born May 29, 1856, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, where he spent 31 years of his life. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith there in 1872, and in 1884, in his native land, he was united in marriage and Mr. and Mrs. Borm came to this county in 1887. Friends from their native home, who had preceded them to this part of the country, prompted them to locate in this county, and they settled on a farm four miles southeast of Remsen on their arrival here. Mr. Borm purchased the land which was then raw prairie, and through dint of hard work, industry and careful management he accumulated a substantial compensation which enabled him to spend the last 17 years of his life in ease and comfort.

They retired and moved to Remsen in 1912, purchasing the old M. Scheel home where Mr. Borm lived until the time of his death. Mrs. Borm died in 1920 and since then the father and his daughter Annie shared the family home, the latter giving of her time and efforts devotedly in providing her aged father with all possible comfort and loving companionship in his declining years.

Claus Borm was one of the community's most substantial citizens, and as such his passing is looked upon as a distinct loss to hundreds of good friends. He was a man of lifelong Christian character and his pleasant manner that characterized the social side of his life made his presence desirable and welcomed in the circles in which he moved. He was a devoted father and husband, a true and loyal friend, and a stanch adherent to the teaching of the Lutheran church of which he was a member throughout his life.

Mr. Borm was the father of eight children, two of whom died in infancy. Those living are: Mrs. Chas. Madelkow, Bridgewater, S.D.; Anna Borm, Remsen; Mrs. Will Hansen, Remsen; John Borm, Canistota, S.D.; Hans Borm, Remsen, and Mrs. Herman Erichsen, Remsen. There are eight grandchildren. The deceased had but one sister who died at an early age in Germany.

The funeral took place this afternoon, with services at the home at 1:30 o'clock, followed by services in Christ Lutheran church, the funeral being conducted by the pastor, Rev. A. Noack.
