Stephen was the son of Andrew Bower, Andrew, the son of Michael Bower and wife Catherine who came from Germany. Andrew's second wife was Barbara Eckert. With her they had 2 sons. The other son Michael, died in the same year as Stephen, 1824. Stephen's first wife was Sarah born 1795 and with her they had two daughters, Susan Ann Bower born 1818 and Sarah Ann Bower born 1820. The mother Sarah and her two daughters died on the same day September 23, 1821. The girls were 2 1/2 years old and 10 months old when they died. Their mother was 26. We do not know how they died. It is written on their headstone "The Mother and 2 children died same day."
Stephen married second wife Mary and had a son named Jonas. They are listed in his Adams County Will. (Jonas, young son) They are all buried at Red Mount Cemetery, York County, Pennsylvania. It is believed that Jonas Bower moved to Ohio with other Bower family members, married Polly Bailey and they are buried at Fairview Cemetery Mesopotamia, Ohio.
