"1911 - The White Steamer touring car belonging to Martin Hermann was totally destroyed by fire on Sunday evening in fro of the home of Henry Mauer in the Beechwoods. Mr Hermann and his sons, Edgar and Edwin and Miss Katie Mauer had been visiting at Mr Mauer's and while Mr Hermann was generating steam in the are preparatory to starting home, it back-fired and set the woodwork and trimmings on fire and it was but a few minutes when the car was a wreck. All that remains is the skeleton of a former good car."
From the Sullivan County Democrat DOWN THE DECADES in an issue printed Tuesday April 4 2023 pg 1B: 1913 A fire charred and completely gutted frame is all that remains f the large garage and machine shop owned by Martin Hermann of South Main St., Callicoon. 5 cars, 3 lumber wagons, auto supplies and accessories, tires, etc., were totally wrecked and destroyed in the fie which occurred at 2: 14 o'clock Tuesday morning. The blaze was discovered by Mrs Blackwell who resides the doomed garage. Loss estimated at about $7,000.

"1933 Martin Hermann, aged 78, prominent lumber merchant of Callicoon, died suddenly at his winter home at Miami, Fla, on December 12. Mr Hermann was born in Beechwoods on August 31 1855, a son of Martin Hermann and Catherine Haus, natives of Germany. In 1888 he started in the lumber business in Callicoon. In 1883 he was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Wizeman of Beechwoods."
