Johann Georg was the son of Christoph (1740-1825) and Maria Adelheid Poppe, nee Becker (1749-1826) of Bremen, Germany. Some of his work is found in the book "Classicism and Romanticism in Building Bremen".He also owned a steam-powered mill at Herrlichkeit #16, Bremen, where he resided. He married Betha Meyer (1775-1836) in Bremen in 1800. They had eleven children, only six of whom lived to adulthood.
