Kutja was the 12 child of John and Katherine Gerlach. Kathraina was known as Kutja in her own family and then preferred Catharine after she came to the U.S. She met William while working as a house maid in his mother's home. The Lindeman and Gerlach families became good friends. She had an older sister also call Katharine with a K. With her brother, Peter, Catharine arrived first in New York where they were met by their brothers, Justus, William, and Philip. They all traveled by train to Hazelton Penn.

MRS. WM. LINDEMAN DEAD
HAD LIVED IN CASS COUNTY SINCE THE YEAR 1870
Died at an Early Hour this Morning at the Family Home in This City
At about two o'clock this morning Mrs. Wm. Lindeman died at her home in this city, after an illness of a few weeks. It was known for some time that she was dangerously ill, and her children had all been home to see her. A few days ago she was thought to be a little better but she got worse again and her death occurred this morning as above stated. Her maiden name was Catherine Gerlach, and she was born in Germany, September 2, 1845. She came to the United States of America in May, 1865, and was married to Wm. Lindeman, who survives her, on September 22, 1867, at Hazleton, Pennsylvania, making that place their home until the fall of 1869, when they moved to Illinois. The next spring they came to Cass county and bought 80 acres in section 11 in Noble township, where they made their home until 1873, when they bought a farm of over two hundred acres in section 5 of the same township. Here they lived until a few years ago, when they came to Atlantic to make their home, having lived here since that time.
To Mr. and Mrs. Lindeman were born ten children, five sons and five daughters, all of whom are living. They are George G. of Bear Grove township, Wm. H. of this city, Prof. Frank of Fontanelle, Joe of Bear Grove township, Gus of Platte, S. D., Mrs. Lucy Janss of this city, Mrs. Catherine Heckman of Anita, Mrs. Alice Neff of this city, Mrs. Mary Mueller of Easton, Maryland, and Miss Tillie, who is still at home. Deceased leaves one sister, Mrs. Miachel, whose home is in Illinois, and three brothers, George Gerlach of Lyman, Wm. Gerlach of Hazelton, Pa., and Lewis Gerlach ot Seattle, Washington.
Funeral services will be held at the home Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. G. F. Braun, and interment will be made in Atlantic cemetery.

'The Lindeman Funeral'
The funeral of the late Mrs. Wm. Lindeman was held at the home in this city yesterday afternoon and was attended by many friends of the family from this city and from their old home neighborhood south of town. Rev. G. F. Braun conducted the ceremonies and burial took place in the Atlantic cemetery.

'Returned to Dakota'
Mr. and Mrs. Gus Lindeman have returned to their home at Platte, S. D. They were called here by the sickness and death of Mr. Lindeman's mother.

Prof. Frank Lindeman returned to Fontanelle by way of Cumberland last night, having been called here by the sickness and death of his mother, the late Mrs. Wm. Lindeman. Prof. Lindeman is principal of the Fontanelle public schools.
