Viola Maas, age 84 of Parker and formerly of Menno passed away Thursday, April 27, 2006 at Avera McKennan Hospice in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Monday, May 1, 2006 at Peace Christian Reformed Church, Menno, with Rev. Clarence Van Essen officiating. Burial will be in the Menno Cemetery. Visitations will be 3 to 5 PM, Sunday, at the Aisenbrey-Kostel Funeral Home, Menno, and resume at 6 PM at the church for a scripture service at 7:00 PM. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Brandon Michels, Justin Michels, Levi Hertz, Jeremy Fischer, Nathan Fischer, Matthew Fischer, Kristin Fischer.
Viola was born August 21, 1921 to August and Magdalena (Koerner) Hauck at the family farm southeast of Menno. She was baptized on November 13, 1921 by Rev. Rittershaus at Saron Reformed Church and confirmed on June 28, 1936 by Rev. Bodeman. She attended Morning Star School through the 8th grade.

She married Melferd Maas on September 8, 1940 at Saron Reformed Church. They were blessed to spend over 61 years together. Her pride and joy were her two daughters, LuAnn and LaNae. Along with Melferd they were in the dairy business for over 40 years. She spent many years as a church organist and pianist. She also enjoyed sewing and gardening. However, her greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren and great granddaughter.

Grateful for having shared her life are her daughters; LuAnn (Grant) Dather of Parker, SD and LaNae (Steven) Fischer of Lesterville, SD. Her grandchildren; Brandon (Jessica) Michels; Justin Michels; Levi Hertz; Jeremy, Nathan, Matthew, and Kristin Fischer; step-grandchildren Tyler and Adam Dather; great granddaughter Gracie Michels. Four sisters Verletta Kaufman, Luella (Lloyd) Haarberg, Eleanor (Randy) Quast and JoAnn (Don) Frasch and four brothers Alfred (Arlena) Hauck, Verlyn (Sharon) Hauck, Milo (Marilee) Hauck, and Larry (Marilyn) Hauck.
