Laura A. Thomas, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2001 at the Sun Prairie Health Care Center. She was born on August 1, 1907 and was the daughter of Frank and Mary (Wavra) Voelker. She married Henry Thomas on September 14, 1931 at Sacred Hearts Catholic Church in Sun Prairie. Laura was employed by the U.S. Postal Service, first as a clerk, and then was promoted to assistant postmaster. She was a member of Sacred Hearts Catholic Church, St. Ann's Altar Society, Marian Circle and the Madison Catholic Women's Club. Laura, always one to keep busy, appointed herself choir director at the health cafe center. She always said "That's what gives you stars in your crown." Survivors include her children; Stephen (Vicki) of Weston, CT and Gail Thompson of Sun Prairie; a granddaughter, Kari Thompson of Sun Prairie; a grandson, Tom (Rena) Thompson of Sun Prairie; Darrell Thompson, father of Tom and Kari Thompson; and three great-grandchildren, Shawn, Alicia and Travis. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, and a brother. A funeral Mass will be held at 6:00 p.m. today, Friday, January 19, 2001 at Sacred Hearts of Jesus & Mary Catholic Church, 227 Columbus St., with Monsignor Duane Moellenberndt presiding. Burial will be at Sacred Hearts Cemetery in Sun Prairie. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 5:45 p.m. today at Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home, 302 Columbus St. in Sun Prairie.
