Funeral services for Yvonne Elaine Karisch Koenning will be held 10:00 a.m.,February 5, 2013, at St. Michaels Lutheran Church in Winchester, Texas. Burial will follow at the St. Michaels Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, February 4, 2013, from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. at the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home.
Yvonne's confirmation verse Revelations 3:20- Behold, I stand at the door, and knock; if any man hears my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. This verse was telling throughout the rest of Yvonne's life as she was such an active and vital part of her family and community.
Yvonne was called to her Heavenly Home on Friday, February 1, 2013. She was preceded in Death by her husband, Hugo of Winchester, son Ray Allen Koenning, two brothers Elton and wife Verna (nee Stueber) Karisch, and Roy M. Karisch.
She leaves behind: her daughter, Sherry Koenning-Cook, and husband Maurice Cook, of Cedar Creek; Granddaughter, Krystel, and husband-Bryan Burton; Grandson, Kyle Koenning; Great- Grandchildren: Caleb and Kourtney Burton, and Brant Koenning. She was also blessed with step-grandchildren: Marcus Cook and wife, Melissa, son Kolby, daughter Rebecka; Carl Cook and wife, Cheryl and son, Trey.
Yvonne and Hugo resided in Houston for eighteen years, and then moved their young family to the Winchester Area in 1972. Prior to moving to Winchester, Yvonne worked for Texas Bolt in Houston. Later, she went to work for a c.p.a. in La Grange. Yvonne was an Active member of her Church, St. Michael's Lutheran of Winchester; Sunday School Teacher, Youth Counselor, Choir, LWML, active member of the Finance Board, and was very involved in the preparations for St. Michael's Centennial Celebration. She was also very involved in various Winchester Community Projects (i.e. Braille Ministry, Forestry Service, 4-H Programs, Volunteer Fire Department. ) It was also noted that Yvonne made "the best tartar sauce around." Making the tartar sauce every year was her "labor of love" for the Fireman's Annual Fish Fry. In addition, she was also involved in the Winchester Area Civic Organization.
Most recently, though, her greatest accomplishments had nothing to do with her work history. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Family was not just an "idea" in Yvonne's life. She dedicated much of her life to loving, raising and caring for her precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Yvonne is survived by her living siblings, two Sisters: Lera and Husband, James Ephraim- of Winchester; Marian , and Husband, Melvin Fritsche of Winchester; two Brothers: Leslie and wife , Gladys (nee Zoch) Karisch of Northrup, Morgan Ray and wife Delores (nee Menzel) Karisch of Jersey Village, Texas; two brothers-in-law; Milton Koenning-and wife Audrey-of Winchester; Dalton Koenning, and wife- Elna Koenning of Jersey Village, Texas; Sister-in-law: Mildred Kasper, and husband, Elgin Kasper; Gladys Teinert of Winchester; She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews from both the Karisch and Koenning families that will dearly miss Aunt Yvonne.
Yvonne's legacy will be the example she set as a matriarch for her family. "Gracious", "Patient", "Loving", and "Kind" are just a few of the adjectives that could be used to describe the woman that was such a huge part of so many lives. The Lord gained a new angel, and Heaven is blessed to welcome the woman that was "Mom", "Grandma", "Sister", "Aunt", "Granny" and "friend" to so many. The ripples that result from the pebble of her life will go on for years to come.
