MACKENZIE
The hearts of those who knew and loved Denise Lynn Mackenzie are full as people of Clearwater mourn her passing. The seven year old (she would have been eight this Saturday), younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wes Mackenzie was fatally injured on Monday, September 11, (1967) when one of the family horses kicked her.
Clearwater RCMP rushed her to Royal Inland Hospital at Kamloops where she died shortly after admission.
Denise is survived by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Wes Mackenzie, brothers Brian and Spencer, and one sister Janet all at home. Also her grandparents, Mrs. Martha Haenschke of Kelowna and Mr. and Mrs. D. G. (Ted) Mackenzie of Clearwater.
Teachers and pupils of Dutch Lake School where Denise had begun her third year, find it difficult to believe they will not see her each morning. Denise had never missed a day of school in her two years of attendance.
The funeral service will be on Friday, September 15 at 2 p.m. in the Clearwater United Church, the Rev. A. Sandilands officiating. Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery, Clearwater. (N. T. Times, Sept 13, 1967, pg. 1)
Relatives and friends of the late Denise Mackenzie bade her a last sad farewell on Friday, September 15. The funeral was in the Clearwater United Church and the Reverend A. Sandilands officiated. Hymns chosen were "The Lord's Shepherd" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus". Mrs. S. Colborne played the organ.
Pallbearers were L. Gamble, D. Hobson, C. Kettleson, John Russell, E. Kupsch and E. Buck. Interment was in the Riverside Cemetery, Clearwater.
A host of relatives came to Clearwater from outside the district to attend the funeral. Mrs. Mackenzie's brother Herb Haenschke was seriously injured during the week following the fatal accident at Clearwater, Mr. Haenschke now is slightly improved and responding to treatment. (N. T. Times, Sept. 20, 1967, pg. 1)
