Served with Co. D 35th Indiana Vol. Inf. During the Civil War of 1861-65. He inlisted as a Corp. on Dec. 11th 1861 and was made Sgt. by July 1862 then Top Sgt. Feb. 22 1863 them he was promoted to 2nd Lieut. on July 5th 1863 he finished the War with that rank and was Discharged in July of 1865. During the War his Regiment was stationed in Missouri and I guess he liked it as he came to live in the state. Buying up several small farms he made one large one near Caruthersville and there he lived and worked with his wife Eva until his death on Jan. 2nd 1919 of the Spanish Flu during the great epidemic of 1918-19 He was 78 years old. Little is known about his wife Eva except after Lukes death she sold the farm and moved away in 1920.
