Ben was born in Savannah and lived there all of his life, he enlisted in the Marines 17 July 1966, at a Atlanta Recruiting Office.
Ben took his boot camp training at Parris Island MCRD and graduated in 1966 with
Platoon 1004.
Upon arriving in Vietnam, Ben was assigned to the Weapons Platoon with 3rd Platoon, Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division.
While participating in Operation Beacon Star, NVA forces launched an assaulted against Echo Company with mortar fire and a ground assault, at Hill 881 North, in
the vicinity of Houng Hoa District and 8 kilometers west northwest of Khe Sanh Airfield.
Ben died during the NVA ground assault, due to a gunshot wound to the head causing massive skull damage from enemy rifle fire.
Tour of duty unknown.
Ben was single and served his country for 9 months and 19 days and was KIA #11,886.
He was 19 years, 9 months and 3 days old.
Survived by his parents; George and Mary Jane Roberts of 1113 East Park, Savannah, GA.
