Lawrence Silva, died Nov. 24, 2010, following a long period of declining health, at the age of 83. Originally from Fall River, Mass., Mr. Silva leaves behind his wife, Lynn of Las Vegas; a son, Lawrence P. Silva of Bridgewater, Mass.; and a daughter, Susan Ferrera of Columbia, N.J. He was the son of the late Antone and Maria Silva; and the brother of the late Dolores Silva, Virginia Kay, Bernadette Pacheco and Susanne Zill. He is survived by a sister, Ann Carey of Fall River; and two brothers, Anthony and John, both of New York. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Aaron M. Silva of Bridgewater and Jessica L. Face of Falmouth, Mass.; as well as three great-grandchildren, Makaila Silva and Joshua and Logan Face. Mr. Silva worked as a ship fitter at both Bethlehem Steel and General Dynamics in Quincy, Mass., following his role as a merchant marine in World War II. He later worked for Mobil Oil Company of Beaumont, Texas, as a merchant marine and the Nevada Corporation of Las Vegas. He enjoyed woodworking and family projects completed during his summer trips back home to Massachusetts. A private service was held Dec. 1, 2010, at King Davids Chapel at the Palm Mortuary and Cemetery in Las Vegas.
