OBITUARY
Frank Quast was born at Shumway on the 10th day of December, 1866, the son of Fredrick and Fredricka Peters Quast. He was baptized in infancy and confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Shumway, April 10, 1881. He was united in holy wedlock with Amelia Bause(sic) on Oct. 12, 1893, to which union five sons were born.
Mr. Quast spent his entire life on a farm near Shumway with exception of the last years of retirement in the village proper.
During the last year his health and strength began to wave. He was confined to his bed only a short time. He was taken to the hospital a little more than a week before his death, where he passed to his eternal reward at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 16, 1946, at the age of 79 years, 1 month and 6 days.
Two of his sons, Melvin and Carl, preceded him in death, as well as three brothers. He is survived by his bereft wife, three sons, Arthur of Farmer City, Walter of Burley, Idaho and elmer of Minier, Ill., nineteen grandchildren, one brother, George of Edgewood and two sisters, Mrs. Adelia Helmbacher and Mrs. Minnie Wetherell, both of Shumway, as well as many other relatives and friends. May he rest in peace.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon January 20, at the Shumway Lutheran Church conducted by Rev. H. Schmitt. Interment was in the Lutheran cemetery north of Shumway.
Flower bearers were grandchildren, Beryl, Gwendoline, Lee and Robert Quast.
Casket bearers were nephews, Wm. Helmbacher, Seth Wetherell, Ben Quast, Will Quast, John Quast, Wm. Vordenfeld.
Among those from a distance attending the funeral were: Mr. Art Quast and family of Idaho, Elmer Quast and son of Minier, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Quast, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Quast, Edgewood, Dale Quast of Bloomington, Mr. and Mrs. Merl Bennett, his mother and Mrs. Bennett of Farmer City, Mr. and Mrs. Quicksall, Mr. and Mrs. Louie Garling, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Keller, Mrs. Wm. Krumwide, Miss Lydia Lagerhausen and Mrs. Will Quast, St., all of Stewardson.
