After completing his studies at Saint Francis de Sales Seminary in Saint Francis, Wisconsin, he was ordained a priest at the Salesianum Chapel of that seminary by Archbishop Frederick Xavier Katzer on June 16, 1901. He was first named Assistant at Saint Michael's Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in October, 1905. He was appointed Pastor of Saint Frederick's Church in Cudahy, Wisconsin, from post he resigned in November, 1907. Thereafter, due to his illness, he served for short periods at Saint Aemilian's Orphan Asylum in Saint Francis, Wisconsin, House of the Good Shepherd in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, Immaculate Conception Church in Burlington, Wisconsin, and Saint Rose Orphanage in Milwaukee. He resigned on June 15, 1916 and obtained leave of absence. In 1917 he was named chaplain at Saint Joseph's Convent in Campbellsport, Wisconsin, with the attached Mission of Saint Matthias in Auburn, Wisconsin, where he served until his final retirement in 1942. Since, then, he had been lived privately at Saint Joseph's Convent in Campbellsport where he passed away unexpectedly.

The Rev. John P. Bertram, a retired Catholic priest, died unexpectedly at 1 p.m. at his home on North Elm Street in Campbellsport. He was 87.

The Rev. Mr. Bertram was born in April, 1877, at St. Peter, ason of Joseph and Gertrude Wollerscheim Bertram. He attended St Peter’s school there and went on to graduate from St. Francis minor and major seminaries.

As assistant pastor at St. Ann’s parish, Milwaukee, St. Frederick’s Cudahy, and St. Rose’s orphanage , Milwaukee. He was chaplain at St Joseph’s convent, Campbellsport, from 1917-41 when he retire due to ill health.

Three brothers and five sisters preceded him in death.

The body will be in stte at the Twohig Funeral Home, Campbellsport, Wednesday from noon until 9 p.m. when it will be moved to the convent chapel where a pontifical requiem mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday.

The Most Rev. Roman R. Atkielski, auxiliary bishop will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Matthew’s cemetery, Campbellsport.
