Widow of Jacob Gies passed away Saturday at Saginaw General Hospital following a month's illness. Age 83 years, Katherine Gies was born Oct 8, 1878, in Russia. She was married there to Mr. Gies and they came to the United States in 1903. Mr. Gies passed away in 1948. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Surviving are five sons and three daughters, G. William Gies, Mrs. John Herzog, Mrs. Roland Paeth and John Gies, all of Bay City; Herman Gies, Kawkawlin; Mrs. Jacob Miller, Saginaw; Theodore Gies, Pavillion, Wyo.; 28 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; also one brother, John Gies, St. Paul, Minn. Funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. Emil Kasischke will officiate with burial in Heavenly Rest Cemetery. Friends may call at the Penzien & Vallender Funeral Home, 608 North Madison Ave., Bay City, until 11 a.m. Wednesday, and at the church from Wednesday noon until time of service.
