Harvey Spencer, was born in Vermont in 1796 and located in this county some time in the 30' s. He owned a farm in the town of Dewitt until 1873, when he bought apart of the Seth Spencer farm in the town of Manlius where he died in 1876. He was a hatter by trade; he was a soldier in the war of 1812. His wife, Huldah Kilburn, was also a native of Vermont. She died in 1844. Of this union eight children were born, four of whom are now living; Seraph S., of Erieville, Madison Co. ; Catherine Ackley, of New Woodstock, Madison Co.; Sarah Mulner, of New Woodstock ; and Orlando. The latter was educated in the common schools and Fayetteville Academy. After leaving school he engaged in farming. He made his home in the town of Dewitt until 1869, when he bought a farm of 48 acres in the town of Manlius. He has made many valuable improvements on the place, but has preserved the part of the old Spencer homestead that has been a landmark for nearly a century.
