Pauline Darnell "Polly" Wicker of Asbury Church Road, died Thursday, March 20, 2008. A native of Moore County, she was the daughter of the late Cleatus and Ollie Marsh Darnell.
She has been a member of Asbury Methodist Church since 1940. She served on several committees and was a Sunday school teacher for several years. She was employed with Saco-Lowell Shops of Sanford for 27 years. She was one of the founders of the Young at Heart Senior Citizens Club in May of 1987.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Wicker and her brother, Boyd Darnell.
Surviving are a daughter, Lyda Wicker Tyson Winstead and husband, Gary, a son Jerry Wicker and wife Cynthia, both of Sanford, a neice Margie Hearn who grew up with the family of Bynum, NC and grandchildren; Traci Tyson Armstrong and husband Ben of Columbia, Alabama, Wendy Wicker Phillips and husband Dwayne, Marijo Tyson Measamer and husband Brent all of Sanford, NC and Jody Ted Wicker and wife Wendi of Bennett, NC. Seven great-grandchildren, Harley Armstrong, Bryce, Sophie and Elli Phillips, Reed Wicker, and Tyson and Tyler Measamer. Two sisters, Lilliam Seagroves and Vera Garner both of Sanford. Three nieces, Debra Oldham and Vicki McConnell, both of Sanford, and Brenda Telford of Indiana. Four nephews, Roger, David and Tony Garner of Sanford, and Greg Garner of Texas. Five great-nieces; Brittany Oldham, Charlotte Blackwelder, Diane Caviness, Beverly Harris and Kim Guenzel, and one great nephew, Steve Hearn.
The family will receive friends at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home in Sanford from 6-8 PM on Saturday, March 22, 2008. The funeral will be at Asbury United Methodist Church at 3:00 PM on Sunday, March 23, 2008. Members of the former Leonard Gunter Sunday School class are requested to serve as honorary pallbearers.
