Edna R. Wheeler passed away on December 31, 2010 at her home in McMinnville, Oregon surrounded by her family that she loved and those who cherished her.

Edna was born in Goodland, Kansas on July 27, 1925 to parents Henry and Louise Rastede. She was about five years of age when her family moved to a farm near Concord, Nebraska.

She attended a rural school for ten years followed by two years at a high school in the town of Concord. She regretted that there were no girls' sports; however, she was a very attractive cheerleader in the cheer leading squad. Graduation from Concord High occurred in 1942. She attended Wayne State Teachers College and taught in rural one-room schools for four years.

Edna and Norm Wheeler were married on June 1, 1947. They moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where Norm attended the University of Nebraska. During those four years Edna worked as a waitress in the Cornhusker Hotel. The family then moved to Grand Prairie, Texas for five years. In 1957 they moved to McMinnville, Oregon where they have resided ever since.

Edna has always had a penchant for working with and around people, young and old. She taught Sunday School for sixty-five years, was a Mac High School cook for sixteen years, and a waitress for thirty years (some of these activities almost simultaneously). For twenty-five years she was "Ma" Claus, riding on a float in the McMinnville parade at the beginning of the Christmas season. To list all other jobs would take a book.

Some of her favorite things were her family and her children. She had a great love for babies, youngsters, teens and almost all people. She adored all things red.

Edna loved the Lord, the church, the Bible and teaching young children about the Lord.

She left notes behind listing other things she loved such as the United State of America, the red, white and blue flag, the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers, all sports and especially the color red.

Edna was preceded in death by her sister, Alice Erwin, her brothers Harvey, Marvin, Clarence, Alvin and twin brother Edward; her granddaughter Katie Nelson and great-granddaughter Aunie Nelson-Heard.

She is survived by her husband Norm, daughter Suzanne Nelson, son James (Ellie), daughter Peggy Davidson (Jim) and son Dan (Susan).

Surviving grandchildren include Jessica and Jordan Wheeler, and step grandchild Joel Maloney. Many nieces, nephews and their children also survive.

Private internment will be in Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 8 at 1:00 PM at the Zion Lutheran Church in Newberg, Oregon. Please feel free to wear red to celebrate the life of this very vibrant and loving woman.
